Supramolecular Chemistry

–Synthetic receptors and thermo-responsive moelcules–

1. C60 amphiphile

Presumably due to their extremely amphiphilic character, water-soluble C60-PEG conjugates exhibit thermoresponsivity in aqueous solution. Their cloud points were totally dependent on the length of PEG moiety and response was reversible ove more than 20 cycles of temperature hysteresis. By further functionalization of hydrophobic C60 core, micelle of C60-PEG altered to vesicle type providing different thermoresponsivity.

2. Cavitands

Amide-substituted cavitand molecules were synthesized and their conformations and dynamic motions were investigated.  The shape of the molecules and switching were dependent on the sizes of the substituents at upper lim and solvents.

3. Calixrenes

As one of the supramolecular synthetic receptors, new calixalenes and cavitand derivatives are under development.
